The establishment of the New England Glass Company at East Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Deming Jarves and his associates in 1818 marked the beginning of one of the most successful American glass manufacturers of the 19th and 20th centuries. The company-now known as Libbey Inc.-has operated continuously for 180 years.
In October 1995, Libbey purchased The Syracuse China Company, one of the leading manufacturers of ceramic dinnerware for the foodservice industry. And, in August 1997 Libbey acquired World Tableware, a leading supplier of stainless steel flatware, holloware, buffetware and a variety of accessories.
Today, it is widely recognized that Libbey is the leading supplier of tabletop products to the foodservice, industrial and retail markets.
